LinkedIn is a social media platform. But it is different from the other platforms because it is a place for professionals to connect with each other and build a network. It is a place where one can upload their CV in the hopes that a connection would see it, and refer it to concerned people for a job interview. Companies also have LinkedIn pages and they often use it to promote jobs. So, basically, if you want to connect with a bunch of professionals in your field and build a nice network LinkedIn is probably one of the best places to do this. Twitter is more of a general social media platform that people use to look at a variety of topics. So, you have to build your strategy keeping that in mind.

This is not to say that causal posting isn't a good marketing strategy. But these posts can be more suitable for Twitter than for LinkedIn as on the latter your posts need to be somehow connected to the company.
A lot of times self-promotion is needed to get the attention of more people. Of course, no one should keep doing it shamelessly but it helps to self promote once in a while and a lot of people gain from it. Since Twitter is a more general platform that a lot of people use to pass their time self-promotion may at times rub the Twitter crowd the wrong way. This is something that is more suitable for LinkedIn as it is a place for businesses and brands to promote themselves.
LinkedIn at times can come off as impersonal and when it comes to making sales sometimes that can get in the way. LinkedIn is a place for professionals to quickly connect with people and build a network to further their career or business. So, it may feel a bit more impersonal than other platforms. This is why a lot of brands benefit from using more general social media platforms where people can go to relax as well.
Well, it depends on a lot of things especially the industry you are in and also what your goals are. Also, you can use both of these platforms to promote your business. But you have to know the difference between them. There pros and cons to using each of these platforms depending on the content you want to put out. Twitter currently is more popular than LinkedIn and a lot of businesses have benefited more from using Twitter to promote themselves.
