The KVS Trained Graduate Teachers or TGT exam consists of two parts as mentioned below with GK & Current Affairs, Reasoning Ability and Pedagogy sections carrying 40 marks each. The total exam is 150 marks and the total time allotted is 2 hours 30 minutes.

How to Prepare for KVS PRT Syllabus & Exam Pattern

Like the KVS TGT exam, the KVS Primary Teacher or PRT exam also comprises two parts. However, in this exam, the Optional subject of 80 marks carries the highest weightage. The total marks is still 150 marks and the time allotted is 2 hours 30 minutes as well.

General English & General Hindi

Topics: Reading Comprehension, Sentence/Paragraph Correction, Error Detection, Jumbled Sentences, Active & Passive Voice, Cloze Test, Odd One Out, Fill in the Blanks, Sentence Connectors, Vocabulary [Synonyms, Antonyms, Idioms & phrases, One-word Substitution], etc.
In both General English and Hindi, Reading Comprehension assumes higher weightage owing to the number and nature of the questions. For such questions, try to identify the theme and style of the passage. The theme can be borrowed from arts, social sciences or science and technology and the style can be rhetoric, conversational, descriptive, etc.
For the vocabulary portion, focus on word forms and origins, root words and translation in the native language. Relate words with each other, for instance, utopia and dystopia, are different prefixes before ‘-topia’. Further, ‘dys’ is a common prefix for words having a negative connotation.

General Knowledge & Current Affairs

Topics: Current Affairs, National & International Issues, Business & Economics, Important Institution and changes, Currency, Major Statistics, Film & Television, Science & Technology, Culture, Events & Anniversaries, Books & Authors, Major Government Schemes, Environment & Ecosystem , Sports, Important Dates, etc.
Changes in Constitution, Environment conventions, major books, awards and writers, critical government schemes, dates and anniversaries and some of the important sub-topics you must focus upon.
Divide your preparation schedule between Static and Dynamic GK [last 6-8 months]. For Dynamic GK, read both English and Hindi newspapers, competitive magazines, monthly topic-based compilations and also develop an understanding of major events. For Static GK, yearbooks are highly recommended.

Reasoning Ability

Topics: Puzzles, Seating Arrangement, Non-Verbal Series, Dates & Calendars, Cause & Effects, Orders & Rankings, Statements & Conclusion, Figures/Verbal Classification, Assertion & Reason, Coding-Decoding, Word Formation, Directions, Syllogism, Alphabet Test, Blood Relation, Inequalities, etc.
In this section, the trick is to break down the problem statement with the help of the instructions and directions given. For instance, in direction questions, identify the starting points, make diagrams, follow the endpoints and be familiar with changes in directions.
A key trick to prepare for the KVS TGT 2021 exam is to visualise the question, make flow charts, trace the steps gradually. This goes a long way in questions like Seating Arrangement, Directions, Clocks, Blood Relations, etc.

Computer Literacy

This section carries 80 questions [80 marks] in the KVS PRT Syllabus and consists of Core Language Competency [Hindi & English], General Science, General Maths and Environmental Science. In Core Language Competency [Hindi & English], you will be tested on core English/Hindi Grammar and Composition such as verb forms, adjectives, conjunctions, punctuations, articles, etc. in both languages as well as methods of teaching at the elementary level. Refer to Wren & Martin’s ‘High School Grammar & Composition’ and ‘Objective General English regularly.
For General Science, some of the crucial topics include Matter, Atomic Structure, Chemical & Physical Changes, Motion, Conservation of Energy, Living World, The Universe, natural Phenomenon, Our Country, etc.
