Last Minute Revision Tips for Class 9 Maths

Class 9 Mathematics examination is not difficult per se. However, the difficulty you face depends on your level of preparation and understanding throughout the year. If you have stayed on top of your studies throughout the year and have paid sufficient attention in class, acing the Class 9 Maths exam should be a piece of cake for you. However, if you lacked focus, got easily distracted, or were just plain intimated by the topics, you might feel fear setting in as the exams approach closer. If the latter explain your situation better, then the question arises what you could do in the last few weeks before the exam to still be able to achieve good grades in the class 9 Maths exam?

Well, the good news is you can still catch up on your studies with a few simple tricks and surpass your expectations with yourself in the exam. Let us see how to make the most of these few last weeks to score well in math:

Traffic light your timetable:

If you failed to plan your studies up till this point, do it now. Make a detailed plan with all the chapters and topics that you need to study. Mark the topics that you are more comfortable with and know better in green. The topics of medium difficulty can be marked in yellow. Highlight the topics that you are dreading right now in red. This gives you an idea about where you currently stand. Go through the green-coded topics once. See the most important topics from the red-coded ones and do the ones that are most repeated in the sample papers and previous years' question papers and have high weightage. Once done with them practice the yellow-colored topics.

Cut off distractions

You have wasted enough time the entire year. Now is the time to buckle up and fasten your seat belt. Say no to all the distractions. Focus all the energy you got into making the most of the time that you have left before the exams

Be prepared to give it all you got

These last few weeks have to just be about studies. You must not have any apprehension to study for long hours, practice extensively, go through numerous past papers, and have one and only one thing on your mind i.e. the Class 9 examination.

Go through the NCERT

For Class 9 almost all questions will be asked from the NCERT textbook. Since you do not have time on your side, you might not be able to go through all the NCERT questions. So look at the topics that have more weightage and the ones that are more scoring. The simpler topics can be practiced just once. If certain topics have a higher weightage but seem difficult to you, you can practice a couple of such chapter-wise questions from a reference book in addition to the NCERT textbook. For instance, just download RS Aggarwal Class 9 Maths Chapter 2 Solutions. See the solutions and practice them in your notebook. However, do not divert your complete attention to reference books. Only practice the questions that seem important in them.

Past papers are your best friends right now

Befriend previous years' question papers at this point. Go through them to understand what questions are repeated in the exam. What topics are asked often? What are some questions that are repeated every year but you have not practiced them enough? Make it a point to solve at least 2 question papers daily. These must be solved seriously on an answer sheet within a set time limit to give you the feel of the actual exam. This can help you practice turning in a picture-perfect answer sheet. Do not forget to analyze your answer sheet for the mistakes.

Have a formula sheet with you all the time:

Since you are only a few days away from the exam, write down all the important formulas and theorems in one place. This way you can refer to them and revise form them over and over again. Make sure you look at this sheet throughout the day at regular intervals.

Clear your doubts

When you come across any doubt even at this stage, do not hesitate to ask your teachers. You can even take online help from credible websites to help clear doubts on important topics. Maths is mostly about conceptual understanding and written practice. Make sure both of these are on point for you. There are several videos available on the internet wherein chapter-wise questions are solved by expert teachers. Refer to a couple of these videos to see if you can clear your doubts with them.

Do not miss classes

As exams approach closer, most students start staying at home and self-study. However, it is during this time that teachers do valuable revision in class. This is for you to clear your doubts and work on important questions. Teachers also hint at important questions that will be asked in the exam during these days along with some useful tips and tricks for the exam.

Do not start anything new

At this point, do not start any fresh topics that you have absolutely no idea of. Try to strengthen the topics that you already know. However, if you come across a certain topic that is repeated over and over again in previous years' question papers, then those topics can be brushed up.

Prepare an exam strategy

Have a foolproof exam strategy. The examiner does not know how much you have lagged in your preparation up until this point. He will know only what he sees on the answer sheet. If you could give the examiner the impression that you are well aware of the topics, you can score really good marks in the exam. So if you do not know it, fake it! How can you do this?

Attempt all the questions.
Begin with the questions that you are most confident in.
Do not turn in a messy answer sheet.
Highlight the formulas or place them in a box
Review your answer sheet twice just to be sure.
